Special Educational Needs Policy

The Academy's policy, which will be available for inspection, will be implemented during 2008. We will work closely with parents/carers, support services and the Local Authority. We will tailor the education provided at the academy to the individual needs of the students. Every effort is made to ensure that the academy is totally accessible.

The Academy Director - Inclusion will ensure the implementation of the academy's policy with regard to an individual student's access to the curriculum.

Home Academy Agreement.

Parents or carers of students attending the Academy will be asked to confirm their wholehearted support for, and willingness to enter into, a working partnership with the Academy which should benefit all.

School Meals

Lunch will be served in the Restaurant using a cafeteria system. A rota system will operate and this will be changed periodically to ensure that each Year group is treated equally.

Students who bring packed lunches will be accommodated in the Restaurant.

Students are expected to stay on the academy premises unless we have received a written request from parents and permission has been given for them to leave.

Collective Worship

Assemblies will be held for all students. Each House Group will have a weekly Assembly. When there is no Assembly for particular students, collective worship is provided on a form basis.

Any parents considering exercising their right to withdraw their children from Religious Education or collective worship should contact the Principal.

Charging Policy for Academy Visits/Activities

Parents will normally be expected to make a voluntary donation towards the cost of visits and activities which are not specifically required elements of any course or syllabus.

It will be made clear that the Academy reserves the right to cancel a trip or visit if insufficient parents are willing to pay.

The Academy will have a policy on the remission of charges. Under normal circumstances remission of charges will only be considered for students whose parents are in receipt of Income Support or Income Based Jobseekers Allowance. Application must be made in writing to the Principal.

The Parent Council

The Academy will establish a Parent Council and a representative of the Council will sit on the Governing Body.

Financial Assistance

Free Academy Meals are provided for children of parents in receipt of Income Support or Income Based Jobseekers Allowance. An official application form must be completed, copies of which will be obtainable from the Academy Reception or Student Services.

Academy Clothing, there is no provision for assistance for the purchase of the academy uniform.

Educational Maintenance Allowance for students over the age of 16 years within low-income families, financial assistance is available. Further details and forms will be available from the Academy Reception.

Transport

It will be the parent/carer's responsibility to see their children travel in safety between home and the Academy.
