Lawfords House

Lawfords House is named after Lawford’s (Lafford’s) Gate which was demolished in around 1760. Lawford’s Gate was situated at the far end of Old Market. The road out was the main access to Bath and London, and the Gate therefore witnessed the arrival of many monarchs.

Our House colour is blue, which symbolises the pride and high standards we hold.

House Motto: ‘Honour and Friendship’

Head of House – Mr Richardson

“Hello, I am Mr Richardson, the Head of Lawfords House. I am based in the Lawfords House office where you will always find either myself or Mrs Coleman here to listen to your problems and help you out.

“Lawfords House has very high standards and celebrate student achievements. Last year we were the House champions and won the House Cup, and are working hard to try and secure the title for the second time running.

“Students in Lawfords are expected to uphold the highest standards of manners, punctuality, attendance, and uniform. We always look after one another and treat each other with respect, which reflects our motto. “

Assistant Head of House – Mrs Coleman

“I am Mrs Coleman and I am proud to be the Assistant Head of Lawfords House. I am here to help sort out any problems the students might have, be it falling out with friends, not feeling very well or simply forgetting their dinner card. I also try to ensure students achievements are celebrated by organising reward trips and presentations.

“Lawfords House is made up of students from all years, with a huge range of skills, talents and abilities, which are put to good use in a number of inter-house competitions, events and quizzes. When you come to Merchants’ Academy, you will see the trophy cabinet, which at the moment is filled with lots of blue ribbons thanks to our student’s hard work!

“My job is to ensure that Lawfords’ students are happy in school, and want to come in every day and be the best that they can be.”
