Welcome to our Curriculum Area!

Staffing

The Physical Education Curriculum Area currently consists of six full-time and one part-time member of staff. The Academy is also part of the SSCO programme and works in partnership with the local Sports College.

Facilities

Our brand new state-of-the-art sports facilities are second to none in the local area. They consist of two sports halls, grass pitches, a professional dance studio, a physical education classroom, two fitness suites, a full size floodlit astroturf, and a Multi Use Games Area.

Kit

All students are expected to take part in every Physical Education lesson in the correct kit in both KS3 and KS4.

Co-curricular Activities

The Physical Education Department offer a full and varied co-curricular programme delivered by PE staff, other staff and external coaches. Students teams compete in netball, football (boys and girls), rugby, basketball (boys and girls), cross-country, athletics, cricket and rounders.

As well as the traditional team games, there are also opportunities for students to attend clubs in activities such as dance and fitness to help keen them healthy and motivated.

Curriculum

Key Stage 3 Curriculum

Students joining the Academy at the start of Year 7 are offered a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. The curriculum structure and planning caters for all abilities and interests. Students are taught all the important skills, techniques, concepts and strategies in a variety of different sports.

The emphasis is placed firmly on participation and enjoyment. Physical Education lessons are also used as a means of improving communication and organisational skills, team-work, self-esteem, confidence and independent learning. Students will also have the opportunity to follow modules on problem solving, health & fitness and leadership.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

Students are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own learning in KS4 and are encouraged to pursue their own interests where possible. The aim in core Physical Education is to provide students with the opportunity to follow one of the following pathways so that they are able to maximise their potential.

BTEC Sport

Students are given the opportunity to study Level 1 or Level 2 BTEC Sport (certificate and diploma) in KS4. Students are given guidance as to the most suitable course for them. Students are also able to study Level 3 BTEC sport as an option in Post 16.
