GCSE Revision Tips

Follow these tips to make sure you get the best grade possible in your exams!

1. Attitude

Think positive as negative thoughts will only distract you. Keep in mind your future goals and think how your excellent exam results will help you achieve them

2. Managing your time

- Draw up a revision time-table that includes all the topics you need to revise, and stick to it
- Start now so that what you revise goes into your long term memory
- Take regular rest breaks

3. Revision Techniques

There are lots of different ways, so try a few and stick with the one that helps you best:
- Use GCSE Bitesize or Sam-learning, but make sure you know which bits are relevant to your exam syllabus - ask your teacher if in doubt
- Use Revision Guides, as these will cover all the topics you need. They can be bought through the school at cost price
- Add your own notes and underline or highlight things you feel are important
- Draw Diagrams, Mindmaps and Flowcharts to help you remember the order in which things happen
- Memorise facts by reading and repeating them
- Write down important facts on queue cards and learn them by reading them over
- Get someone to test you on what you've been revising
- Make up word games or rhymes to help you remember things

4. What should you revise?

- Mix up things you find easy and hard. This makes sure you cover everything, but gives you some easier times during your revision
- Don't ignore difficult subjects or tough sections, as there's a chance they'll come up in the exam
- Ask your subject teacher to advise you which topics to revise

5. Where can you revise?

- It is important that you revise somewhere quiet. Don't revise in front off the TV or internet and turn your mobile off as this will distract you!
 - a Library is ideal. You can stay on at school up to 5pm, or use you local Library.
Lastly, our own Academy website has lots of ideas under each subject area so that you can personalise your revision according to the course you are taking.
