Risk Taker
Not fearful of uncertainty and being out of their comfort zone
- Pushes the boundaries of what is possible
- Is able to take calculated risks (where the potential reward far outweighs the risk)
- Is unafraid to make mistakes
At a lower level
- A student might answer a question without fear of getting the answer wrong
- A student might try a new creative idea without fear of it not working
- A student might participate in an activity where they are unsure of the outcome
Progression
- A student will place themselves in more challenging situations where the risk/reward stakes are higher (e.g. performing in a concert or talking to a large group)
- Will willingly and regularly take part in discussions and demonstrations
- Understands that calculated risk-taking is important in other areas of life.
- Is able to understand that risk-taking can be dangerous and have damaging consequences, for instance in relation to drinking, smoking, drug use, reckless driving, unsafe sexual activity etc.
At a higher level
- A student will place themselves in challenging situations with the confidence that they will cope with the unknown (travelling abroad alone for the first time, leading an expedition)
- Is able to value risk-taking as a learning tool
- Is able to carefully calculate the risk involved in making important life decisions – moving area, investing money, buying a house etc.
