Háblame un poco de tu familia – talk to me a bit about your family:

Mi madre trabaja con animales y mi padre es funcionario. Mi hermano Charlie trabaja en un instituto y el otro para Virgin Media. Charlie fue a la universidad de Bristol y estudió la informática. A Henry no le gustó el colegio pero trabaja muy duro entonces siempre tiene un buen trabajo.

My mother works with animals and my father is a civil servant. My brother Charlie works in a school and the other one works for Virgin Media. Charlie went to the University of Bristol and studied IT. Henry did not like school but works hard so always has a good job.

¿Te llevas bien con tu familia? – do you get along well with your family?:

Sí, siempre me llevo bien con ellos. Me encantan mis dos hermanos y siempre les doy dinero – ¡todo el tiempo!

Yes, we’ve always got along well. I love my two brothers and I always give them money – all the time!

Describe a tu mejor amigo/a – describe your best friend:

Mi mejor amiga se llama Annabel y vive en Londres. Fuimos a la misma escuela primaria y todos los fines de semana vamos al centro comercial, al polideportivo y al cine. Nos gustan las mismas películas. Es habladora – yo también.

My best friend is called Annabel and she lives in London. We went to the same primary school and every weekend we got to the shopping centre, sports centre and cinema. We like the same films. She’s chatty – I am too.

Hay problemas en tu ciudad con el alcohol o la droga? – Are there problems in your city with alcohol or drugs?:

Sí, desgraciadamente hay muchos problemas. El alcohol está disponible a los jóvenes y lo beben en la calle. Es demasiado fácil obtener drogas también y conozco a personas de mi edad que las consumen.

Yes, unfortunately there are many problems. Alcohol is available to young people and they drink it in the streets. It’s too easy to obtain drugs as well and I know people my age who take them.

TOURISM

¿Qué tipo de vacaciones te gusta y por qué? – what type of holiday do you like and why?

Me encantan las vacaciones con muchas cosas que hacer – prefiero alojarme en un hotel en un lugar interesante donde se puede ir a la playa, visitar los museos y los monumentos. Si se puede hacer el buceo, ¡es perfecto para mí!

I love holidays with lots of things to do – I prefer to stay in a hotel in an interesting place where you can go to the beach, visit museums and monuments. If you can do snorkelling, it’s perfect for me!

Háblame de las vacaciones del año pasado – talk to me about your holidays last year:

Fui a Ecuador con mi familia. Fue fantástico. Viajamos en avión desde el aeropuerto de Heathrow. Llegamos a las tres de la mañana – el vuelo duró trece horas. Nos alojamos en un camping cerca de la selva amazónica y fuimos a la playa muchas veces. Hicimos senderismo en la selva y vi muchos animales exóticos. Fue una experiencia inolvidable. Me encantó el país. Hacía calor.

I went to Ecuador with my family. It was fantastic. We travelled by plane from Heathrow airport. We arrived at three in the morning – the flight lasted thirteen hours. We stayed in a campsite near the Amazon Rainforest and we went to the beach many times. We went on a trek through the forest and I saw many exotic animals. It was an unforgettable experience. I loved the country. It was hot.

¿Adónde irás de vacaciones este año? – where will you go next year?:

Iré a los Estados Unidos. Siempre he querido visitar Nueva York y Las Vegas. Voy a ir con mi amigo y si tenemos tiempo, también vamos a ir a México por un día. Va a hacer mucho calor y sol.

I will go to the United States. I have always wanted to visit New York and Las Vegas. I’m going to go with my friend and if we have time, we are going to go to Mexico for a day as well. It will be very hot and sunny.

ENVIRONMENT

Describe tu casa – describe your house:

Bueno, mi familia es muy rica entonces tenemos una casa muy grande. Hay una cocina, un salón, seis dormitorios y ocho cuartos de baño. En el jardín hay una piscina y en la casa hay una piscina cubierta con sauna. Estamos muy orgullosos de nuestra casa.

Right, my family is very rich so we have a very big house. There is a kitchen, dining room, six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. In the garden there is a swimming pool and in the house there is an indoor pool with a sauna. We are very proud of our house.

¿Cómo es tu barrio? -what is there to do in your area?

¡Mi barrio es estupendo! Hay los jardines botánicos y grandes calles cerca de mi casa. Tenemos muchas tiendas de moda y cafés italianos.

My area is great! There are the Botanical Gardens and big roads near my house. We have lots of fashion shops and Italian cafes.

¿Qué puedes hacer para proteger el medio ambiente? – what can you do to protect the environment?

Me gustaría hacer todo para protegerlo. Puedo reciclar el papel, las latas, las botellas y productos de plástico. También se puede comprar la gasolina sin plomo y los productos ecológicos.

I would like to do everything to protect it. I can recycle paper, cans, bottles and plastic products. Also you can buy unleaded petrol and ecological products.

¿Es mejor vivir en la ciudad o en el campo? – is it better to live in the city or the countryside?

Prefiero vivir en la ciudad porque siempre he vivido en Bristol. Estoy acostumbrada a tener lo que necesito como las tiendas y lugares de interés cerca de mi casa – a una distancia que se puede andar fácilmente. Aunque puedo entender porque a la gente le gusta el campo a causa de las vistas hermosas y el aire fresco, siempre elegiría vivir en una ciudad grande.

I prefer to live in the city because I have always lived in Bristol. I am accustomed to having what I need like shops and places of interest near to my house – within walking distance. Although I can understand why people like the countryside because of the beautiful views and fresh air, I would always choose to live in a big city.

LEISURE

¿Qué haces en tus ratos libres? – what do you do in your spare time?

Normalmente salgo con amigos y vamos al cine todos los sábados. Generalmente los domingos vamos al polideportivo o vamos a los campos para andar y charlar un poco. Nos gusta ahorrar dinero para viajar a ciudades grandes como Londres porque nos gusta ir de compras y visitar lugares nuevos.

Normally I go out with friends and we go to the cinema every Saturday. Generally on Sundays we go to the sports centre or to fields to walk and chat. We like to save money to travel to big cities like London because we like to go shopping and visit new places.

¿Qué opinas del nuevo centro comercial (Cabot Circus) en Bristol? - what are your opinions about new shopping centres in Bristol?

Es difícil decir porque me encantan las tiendas y el edificio es fantástico - hay un aparcamiento y las paradas de autobús muy cerca pero es una lástima por las tiendas que ya existen en Bristol porque no venden como antes.

It’s difficult because I love the shops and the building is fantastic – there is a car park and bus stops nearby but it’s a shame for the shops which already existed in Bristol because they don’t sell like they did before.

¿Qué tipos de música te gusta? – what sort of music do you like?

Me encanta el grupo Scissor Sisters pero me gusta todos tipos de música porque me gusta Timbaland, Britney Spears, T2 pero al mismo tiempo me gustan grupos como Jamiroquai, The Rolling Stones y cantantes extranjeros como Faudel, Paulina Rubio y Shakira. Hay mucha variedad.

I love the group Scissor Sisters but I like all sorts of music because I like Timbaland, Britney Spears, T2 but at the same time I like groups like Jamiroquai, The Rolling Stones and foreign singers like Faudel, Paulina Rubio and Shakira. There’s a lot of variety.

HOME LIFE

Describe tu rutina diaria – describe your daily routine:

Me levanto a las cinco y normalmente me ducho en seguida. Si tengo mucho trabajo, lo hago antes de vestirme. Desayuno cereales con una taza de té. A las ocho menos cuarto, voy al instituto en coche y llego a las ocho y cuarto. Las clases empiezan a las nueve y terminan a las tres y media. Regreso a casa a las cinco porque voy a un club de baloncesto después de colegio.

I get up at five in the morning and normally I shower straightaway. If I have a lot of work, I do it before I get dressed. I eat cereal for breakfast with a cup of tea. At quarter to eight, I go to school by car and I arrive at quarter past eight. Classes begin at nine and finish at three thirty. I return home at five because I go to a basketball club after school.

¿Sabes cocinar? – do you know how to cook?

No, no sé. De vez en cuando trato de cocinar pero siempre es un desastre. Me gustaría aprender como hacerlo – lo haré antes de ir a la universidad. Mi plato favorito es el pollo asado. Me encanta la cocina española pero odio los mariscos.

No, I don’t know. Sometimes I try to cook but it is always a disaster. I would like to learn how to do it – I will do it before going to university. My favourite meal is roast chicken. I love Spanish food but I hate shellfish.

¿Qué haces para ayudar en casa? - do you help out around the house?

¡Lo menos posible! Estoy bromeando – me encanta ayudar a mis padres. Limpio las habitaciones, especialmente los cuartos de baño porque tenemos ocho. Paso la aspiradora y en general arreglo todos los días. Vale la pena porque me pagan bien.

As little as possible! I’m joking – I love to help my parents. I clean the rooms, especially the bathrooms because we have eight. I vacuum and in general I tidy up every day. It’s worth it because they pay me well.

EDUCATION & WORK

¿Los idiomas son importantes? - is learning foreign languages important?

Claro que sí. Es importante hablar y entender otras lenguas porque se puede viajar sin problemas y hacer amigos extranjeros. También en el mundo de trabajo, se puede trabajar en el extranjero o en el Reino Unido porque hay muchos empleos que necesitan idiomas.

Of course. It’s important to speak and understand other languages because you can travel without problems and make foreign friends. Also, in the world of work, you can work abroad or in the United Kingdom because there are many jobs with need languages.

¿Te gustaría ir a la universidad? – would you like to go to university?

Sí, me gustaría ir a la universidad de Bristol para estudiar idiomas o la biología. Todavía no he decidido. ¡Será fenomenal!
