"Hi, my name is Mr Short and I am Academy Director for Year 7.
"At Merchants' Academy, we understand that moving from primary to secondary education is a big change for an 11 year old, so we have put special measures in place to ensure that the transition goes smoothly and that your child feels comfortable and happy here.
"Year 7s will register daily with vertical tutor groups containing students of all ages from across the Academy, helping them to make friends and build good relationships with older students.
"The Year 7 curriculum is delivered in individual subject areas, to introduce students to the specific disciplines. There is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy in the first year, and all subjects will aim to develop these key skills in order to enhance learning in all areas.
"We welcome all new students here at Merchants' where they will be nurtured and supported, helping them to grow into confident and happy young adults, who understand team-work, can make decisions and have an enthusiasm for learning."
