Important Information: increased fraud risk during coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
Periods of instability, such as during the coronavirus pandemic, bring an increased risk of fraud. Fraudsters will actively exploit these difficult times and will target vulnerable areas for financial gain.
The Government have been informed that some learners and parents have received a letter from the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) asking for personal learner bank details in relation to the 16-19 Bursary Fund. The ESFA never ask for personal bank account details. This is a fraudulent letter – please do not respond.

School Closure & Covid-19 Announcement
Merchants’ Academy Primary and Secondary will be open from 8.30am to 2.30pm for all vulnerable and key worker students as outlined by the Government.
Primary students should report and register at the Primary site for 8.30 and will remain at Primary for the morning, Y2 – Y6 students will then be walked to Secondary to have their lunch and attend a PE session each afternoon. Therefore, can we please ask that these students are collected from the secondary site at 2.30pm. Please note that Nursery, Reception and Year 1 students will finish at 2.20pm to allow parents to get to Secondary, if necessary.
Students should attend in full school uniform and bring in PE Kit for the afternoon session.
The clear message from government is:
“YOU SHOULD ONLY SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF YOU HAVE TO, BECAUSE YOUR WORK IS CRITICAL TO OUR COVID-19 RESPONSE. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO KEEP YOUR CHILD AT HOME YOU SHOULD”
Do not use this service unless your work is critical to the COVID-19 response. We need to make sure we can provide a service for critical workers. We also need to ensure that we do not have large numbers of children together that puts them, and our staff, at risk.
Remote Learning for secondary students at home
Merchants' Academy is committed to providing high-quality, meaningful work to complete while the academy remains closed to most students.
If you require alternative work that does not require Internet access, please email Bianca Ramsden at email@example.com.
