WHY CHOOSE CONSTRUCTION & THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT?

This course will focus on the learning achieved during years 10 and 11, although a prior qualification in this area is not required to sign up to this course in 6th form. We have fantastic facilities here at Merchants’ Academy which will provide you with a feel for a career within the Construction Industry.

 

COURSE INFORMATION

In Year 12 and 13, students will be introduced to the following topics:

• Construction Principals

• Construction Design

• Construction Technology

• Health and Safety in Construction

• Surveying in Construction

• Graphical Detailing in Construction

• Building Regulations and Control in Construction

• Management of a Construction Project

• Projects in Construction

• Provision of Primary Services in Buildings

 

HOW WILL YOU BE ASSESSED?

Students will be assessed on 10 units, 7 mandatory, the remaining 3 units are optional, but chosen specifically by the teacher. During the course, students will build portfolio’s relating to each unit which will include written assessments and coursework. Students will also be closely monitored and tracked to the ensure they are constantly aware of their progress and what needs to be done in order to improve their grade. Both homework and independent learning tasks will be set on a regular basis and are essential to the completion of the course and meeting the required criteria.

COMPONENT 1 – COURSEWORK

CONTRIBUTION TO FINAL GRADE: 66%

COMPONENT 2 - WRITTEN EXAM (EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT)

CONTRIBUTION TO FINAL GRADE: 33%

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: NO SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS, JUST A RANGE OF GCSE GRADES. IN ADDITION LEVEL 2 CONSTRUCTION AT A L2 PASS IS DESIRABLE.
