Primary Get Mathematically Challenged
This term at Primary the students have been enjoying the extra challenges and deciphering mathematical problems and puzzles thrown their way. Students in Y4 and Y5 represented the Academy at two different Maths competitions within Bristol, and all the students should feel very proud with their achievements.
Y4 students selected were Felix , Alfie , Sam and Lacey and they went to Red Maids School on Tuesday 17th January for a Bristol Maths competition.
The Y4 students competed against 24 schools from across Bristol and finished overall in 10th place. Miss Charlotte Hamill, who teaches the students said: 'The students were fantastic, a true credit to the Academy.'
Y5 students selected were Mason, Brandon, Acwellan and Elijah and they went to Bristol Grammar School on Thursday 26th January for the Bristol Maths Challenge.
The students were able to take their parents with them, each of whom really enjoyed the occasion. The students expressed how glad they were that their parents could come along, and all the parents mentioned what 'a great opportunity' it was for their children.
The students all had a fantastic afternoon and at the end of the competition were rewarded with a certificate. They finished rank 15/27 schools, beating many local and private schools in Bristol.
Mason – 'I was so pleased that I was chosen to come to the Maths Challenge.'
Brandon – 'It was a fun event and I would do it again definitely.'
Acwellan - 'I felt very alive and clever during the event.'
Elijah – 'First I was a little frightened, but then I became excited about how well we were doing in the competition.'
Head of Primary Mrs Julie Hearn said:
'Our students should be very proud of their attitudes and their confidence to take part in these out of school competitions. Well done to all the students.'
