Y9 Construction Workshop with Gleeds

This term, Y9 students enjoyed an exciting workshop by Gleeds, who are a global construction consultancy. The workshop was designed to raise students aspirations towards construction and architecture & design and if they did well it could provide them with opportunities for future work experience and apprenticeships.

The aim of the workshop was to design and create the perfect plan for the Royal family’s horse stable construction. The winning team would be entered into a national competition for a chance to win a tour of Buckingham Palace.

The event provided students with the opportunity to see what working within the Construction industry involved. It also gave them a chance to meet ‘real’ people who travel the world and work on high profile construction projects globally.  The work produced by Y9 was of a high quality and their level of respect towards the guests was second to none.

'The workshop was a great success with the students thoroughly enjoying all aspects and were continually proactive in their learning. Staff from Gleeds were exceptional and were all really impressed with both our students and academy facilities.'

All students presented their design ideas infront of the other students and Gleeds staff. They all took turns to confidently public speak their ideas, deliver a powerpoint presentation and talk through their stable design sketches.
