Y9 show commitment to Bright Sparks

Bright Sparks is a 38-week long programme ran by instructors from Bristol RFC, promoting positive life-choices and using rugby and other sports to teach skills like leadership, strategy and teamwork.

Each week, boys in Y9 receive a 2-hour session covering a variety of rugby union skills, drills, team building and communication games for engagement. Traditional values and ethics of the sport of rugby such as Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are also highlighted throughout the programme.

After successful completion of the programme students will earn a level 1 Award in ‘Skills Towards Enabling Progression (Step-UP)’, which will look great on their CVs. As well as this qualification students have the opportunity to complete additional courses in sports coaching and first aid.

Each term the Bright Sparks sessions are themed and feature a ‘reward’ that is often based on the theme from that term. This term the students recently visited Ashton Gate Stadium, here the students, alongside other Bristol Rugby Community Foundation projects, provided support during the half-time period of the Bristol vs Doncaster rugby game. Please see below for the link to a press release about the event:

As a reward for commitment to the programme and their achievements across the first two terms the Y9 students received smart Bristol Rugby team wear hoodies. The hoodies were presented by Ian Larthe de Langladure, Partner at Aspire Partnership LLP - who are sponsoring the programme for the 2017/18 academic year.
