Design Technology opportunities in Y10
Choosing the right Option Subjects in Design Technology
Y10 students have all settled in well into their chosen option subjects in Design Technology and are getting stuck into developing their practical skills.
Students have developed a sound knowledge and understanding of textile materials and their application along with a variety of construction techniques. Students are applying these skills by designing and modelling a fashion garment. Using a variety of folding techniques, they have worked first in paper to produce a toile of the skirt they will go on to produce in fabic over the coming term.
Preparation is well on its way for the students first exam in March, which will be based on healthy diets. They have also found time to develop their practical skills and subject knowledge through making pasta from a variety of flours. By working in pairs students have explored how to make a dough, use the pasta machines and understand the properties needed for a super stretchy and fine linguine.
Y10 Product Designers have been working hard on a phone docking station project. They have been learning skills such as laminating plywood, soldering, CAD/CAM and finishing techniques. They have also been building skills in preparing for their GCSE main project which they will undertake in Y11.
