Welcome from the Head of Primary

 

On behalf of the staff and children at Merchants' Academy, as Head of Primary, I would like to welcome you to our website. Merchants Academy Primary is a vibrant, two-form entry school in the heart of Withywood, taking children from three to eleven. We are extremely lucky to be part of an 'all through' school, giving our pupils the opportunity to stay in the same educational setting (if they choose) until they are eighteen.

We aim to give all of our children an excellent education whilst equipping them with the skills they need for life. We are proud to be an extremely nurturing and inclusive school. We value working with our parents in order to give our children the best start possible. We have high expectations of all of our children, encouraging them to follow our school rules of 'Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe' and work within our Venturers Trust Values of 'Be Kind, Work Hard and Have Courage'. 

We are committed to the safeguarding of our pupils and the safety and well being of our children remains our highest priority. We have a structured approach to safeguarding through our dedicated safeguarding team led by our Designated Safeguarding Lead. 

We place the welfare and safety of our pupils at the top of our agenda, consequently our experienced safeguarding team are well positioned to navigate any concerns professionally and compassionately. 

Our curriculum is engaging and planned to meet the needs of our learners- we have high aspirations for all of our children and encourage them to 'aim high'.  PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) is woven throughout our work and we keep a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.  Our wider curriculum is carefully sequenced and progressive, enabling our children to 'know more' and to 'remember more'.
